Our Founders

Tyra Bacon
Executive Director
Tyra Bacon is a small business owner, longtime financial professional, community volunteer, and founder of The Peopleās Rights Project. Her belief in the founding principles of the United Statesāand in the responsibilities that accompany the freedoms Americans enjoyāforms the foundation of her commitment to civic education and engagement. An Army brat raised in a large family by an orthopedic surgeon and a teacher, Tyra learned early the importance of service, education, personal responsibility, and seeing the world from different perspectives. Those values have remained constants throughout her personal and professional life. For more than 25 years, Tyra owned and operated a financial planning business, helping individuals, families, and business owners make consequential financial decisions. Today, she owns a bookkeeping business and a consulting business. Throughout her career, she has believed that good decisions begin with good informationāa principle she believes applies just as importantly to citizenship. Tyra has long taken the responsibilities of citizenship seriously. She votes consistently, researches candidates before casting her ballot, and approaches general elections by considering the individual candidate rather than simply relying on party affiliation. She also believes civic responsibility extends beyond voting. She doesn't avoid jury duty and views participation in our system of government as one of the responsibilities that comes with living in a free society. Her experiences as a voter helped inspire The Peopleās Rights Project. Finding meaningful, objective information about candidatesāparticularly candidates for state and local officesācan be surprisingly difficult. Campaign messaging often emphasizes emotion, personalities, and carefully selected issues rather than giving voters the information they need to make meaningful comparisons. Tyra envisions creating resources that help citizens evaluate candidates on relevant, consistent factors so they can make their own informed decisions. Underlying that vision is a simple philosophy: freedom comes with responsibility. Tyra believes laws exist so that everyone plays by the same rules, but laws have little meaning if no one is willing to uphold them. Likewise, constitutional rights have little meaning if they do not apply to everyoneāand they can disappear if citizens are unwilling to understand and defend them. She founded The Peopleās Rights Project from the belief that Americans need more education, encouragement, and practical support to become informed and engaged citizens. Preserving a free society cannot be left solely to elected officials, political parties, institutions, or someone else. It ultimately depends upon citizens who understand their rights, accept their responsibilities, ask questions, seek reliable information, participate in civic life, and are willing to stand up for the rights of others as well as their own. Tyra's commitment to community service has included serving on a variety of nonprofit, professional, and community boards, including the Broward Public Library Foundation, Slow Food Glades to Coast, The Camerata, the Financial Planning Association, the Boys & Girls Club Reitman Unit, the Planned Giving Council of Broward County, and her condominium association board. When she isn't working or pursuing civic projects, Tyra enjoys playing disc golf and exploring new things. Through The Peopleās Rights Project, Tyra hopes to help build something she believes our country needs: a more informed, empowered, responsible, and engaged citizenry capable of carrying forward the promise of liberty and justice for all.
John Michie
Production Director
John Michie is an award-winning filmmaker and production operations leader with over 20 years of experience in the media industry. John and his wife, Diana, have owned and led Like This Creative, a successful South-Florida based production company, since 2007. They deliver premium content for global brands, networks, and agencies, working with organizations like HBO, Discovery, NASA-ISS, MTV, VH1, Cinemax, Fusion, MCM, and more. Recently, theyāve focused on supporting the South Florida small business community through strategic online and broadcast content. In collaboration with The Peopleās Rights Project, Like This Creative provides the production pipeline and media creation tools essential for achieving their objectives. Growing up in the suburbs of Long Island, New York, and the sunny beaches of South Florida, Johnās upbringing exposed him to different cultural backgrounds and a broad worldview. This inspired him to embark on extensive travels at a young age, traversing the United States as well as visiting over a dozen countries across Europe and South America. This experience instilled in John an appreciation for the global tapestry of diverse individuals and cultures. Through his encounters with these individuals and cultures, John came to the profound realization that all people share fundamental human values, and these values unite us all. It was these shared values that profoundly impacted our founders and were subsequently incorporated into the language of the United Statesā founding documents. Johnās father was a police-officer who instilled in him a healthy respect for law enforcement and justice, provided that it adheres to the constitution and respects the rights of citizens in the process. Another major influence were the remarkable educators John had throughout his life, who significantly shaped his worldview and nurtured his critical thinking abilities. The study of the founding of the United States was one of the most impactful subjects for him, and it has had the most influence on his life choices. John holds a profound respect for the accomplishments achieved by declaring independence and fighting a revolution against the most powerful empire of the time. The values that the men and women who championed that cause embodied have inspired John to be resolutely independent and to consistently question authority. This heavily influences Johnās purpose and his approach to creativity, which aligns seamlessly with the production mission of The Peopleās Rights Project. The Peopleās Rights Project began as an idea to produce a documentary that delves into the underlying intentions and philosophical underpinnings that guided the drafting of the United States Constitution. John and Tyra quickly realized that the mission was bigger than just one movie. The concept subsequently evolved into a comprehensive vision that encompasses the utilization of diverse media and communication channels to reignite and reconnect with our foundational principles. John harbors a deep passion for crafting engaging and informative media projects that broadcast the message of individual liberty and personal responsibility, inspired by the principles enshrined in the USAās founding documents and the visionary aspirations of its founders for a free society governed by and for the people.

The Peopleās Rights Project emerged from a desire to unify our citizens and honor the foundational promise of a nation rooted in true liberty and justice for all.
This vision sparked the establishment of a media-focused non-profit dedicated to teaching Americans about the fundamental freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
We believe that when people possess a deep understanding of their legal protectionsāand how to effectively exercise themāour society becomes more ethical, accountable, and driven by genuine empathy.
